Intelligent Supplementation - Pre-Workout Combo

Posted on

For you creatine “non-responders”, or those who don’t want the caffeine hit and the tingling (paresthesia) of beta-alanine, look no further.

Pre-workout strategy is like all supplementation, very subjective. However, there are a few basics everyone should be considering before hitting the gym and the most important are amino acids. The problem with cheap amino acid drinks is they don’t go very far in doing half of what they say on the tin and this is often down to the quality of ingredients used. Quite often the aminos are in their free form and BCAAs are not in the presence of all the essential amino acids. For proponents of BCAA drinks claiming free form amino acids are better absorbed, this isn’t the case. Peptide bonded amino acids are easily absorbed into the small intestine in large amounts through the involvement of hydrogen ions and a transporter known as PepT1.This transport system has a much higher capacity than that of free form amino acids (they rely on sodium dependant transport), conferring several benefits, including faster uptake of BCAAs.

This brings us to the first supplement you should be considering...

Primal26 PRO:

1/2 scoop of Primal26 will provide you with 13g of whole protein (not cheap synthetic aminos in a poorly processed BCAA drink), including enough ProHydrolase to effectively breakdown 90% + of the protein for more efficient assimilation of amino acids into the bloodstream. This literally provides the working muscles with instant amino energy, and will be more effective in doing so than amino/BCAA drinks.

Amino Profile of 1/2 scoop:

L-Isoleucine (BCAA) 819mg L-Proline 793mg L-Glycine 208mg L-Cystine 312mg L-Leucine (BCAA) 1339mg L-Histidine (EAA) 208mg L-Threonine (EAA) 871mg L-Methionine (EAA) 286mg L-Valine (BCAA) 702mg L-Serine 598mg L-Aspartic Acid 1365mg L-Glutamine 2210mg L-Arginine (EAA) 286mg L-Alanine 650mg L-Tyrosine 364mg L-Phenylalanine (EAA) 390mg L-Lysine (EAA) 1313mg L-Tryptophan (EAA) 299mg

It is important to remember to focus on the quality of these aminos and not the amounts. They are derived from the finest quality whey protein isolate (from milk) and their delivery to your working muscles is facilitated by the number 1 proteolytic enzyme complex available on the world market today. Meaning the 1339mg of leucine for example, will be much more effective than a substantially larger amount of synthetic forms found in cheap BCAA drinks.

The Prohydrolase enzyme complex within the Primal26 PRO digests the protein into bio-usable form, allowing your body to take full advantage of the availability of essential amino acids for building muscle, enhancing performance and improving muscle recovery. The clinically tested enzyme complex breaks down well over 90% of the protein (as validated by gel electrophoresis), allowing for 3 times faster protein hydrolysis than the previous leading proteolytic enzyme formulas. This means the amino acids reach your bloodstream much quicker, where they can then rebuild proteins to be used by the working muscles and to increase metabolism.

Glutamine:

Your body contains more glutamine than any other amino acid (mostly in the muscles). Intense exercise makes glutamine conditionally essential and supplementing before your workout helps to top up stores which are quickly depleted - especially for endurance training. This will help to increase athletic performance, delay fatigue and stabilise your immune system. Glutamine converts to glucose very easily and is therefore beneficial for those on a low carb diet - it may also offset the possible metabolic acidosis that is common when dropping the carbs. Add 1 tsp (approx 4g) to your 1/2 scoop of Primal26 PRO, taking your total glutamine to around 6g.

Glutamine helps to resynthesize carbs - taking 8g with carbs will help glycogen levels to replenish much quicker. If you're not worried about your carb intake, try adding 1/2-1 scoop of Super-Carb to this pre-workout combo.

*Tip - Glutamine may help to suppress sugar cravings, so for those of you still hoping to kick the habit, it can’t hurt to try.

Maca Powder:

Add 1/2 tsp of our 4 root gelatinised maca powder to your shake. Maca is an adaptogen, so it raises your energy levels in a balanced way - rather than over-stimulating you, this super root adapts to your body’s needs, therefore during training and as you start to fatigue, it will help to raise energy levels once again. Both men and women can benefit from taking Maca for increased athletic performance as it stimulates the production of balanced levels of appropriate hormones: testosterone for men and estrogen for women, making Maca unique amongst all supplements for muscle building.
